What is Podium Pursuit?

Podium Pursuit is a new way of playing fantasy sports. We've taken the your fantasy sports experience and added a layer of personalization and interaction to allow you the opportunity to enhance and impact the results of a real life event.

Ok, so what really is Podium Pursuit?

Podium Pursuit is made up of a number of fantasy sports games. Each sport has its own scoring system and virtual storefront, but shares the basic functionality with each of the other sports. Each sport consists of unique competitions, which can include a number of distinct events. For each competition you can draft your own teams by picking the athletes in each event within that competition that you believe will win Gold, Silver and Bronze. You can then buy products in the store that can be assigned to the athletes on your team, which in turn enhances each athlete's value.

What the difference between an event and a competition?

An event is a single race (e.g. 200m Freestyle). There are numerous events per competition (e.g. Pan Pacific Swimming Championships).

Create Your Team

How do I create my teams?

Your teams are automatically created as you make your picks in events within a competition. When you make a pick, each athlete becomes a member of your team. You can see your current team roster in the "My Account" page, and you can only have one team per competition.

Can I choose any athlete to put on my teams?

Podium Pursuit generates a selection of athletes based upon the following criteria: a) the official competition entries, b) the current world rankings, or c) a combination of the two. But, you can choose any athlete from the list provided - there are no restrictions on who can pick which athlete.

Can I add athletes to this list?

Yes, you are welcome to email us an athlete's name that you believe may have been omitted from the list accidently. While we cannot guarantee that the name will be added immediately, we will make our best effort to judge the need for that athlete and add it, if necessary.

Outfit Your Team

How do I outfit my team?

When you visit your "My Account" page, you'll see your current teams listed for each competition - this will be shown as a list of athletes (e.g. your picks). Clicking on an athlete's name will allow you to select products from your Locker to be added to the athlete. You can also view your "My Locker" page, and click on the products you own, then select athletes to add the products to.

What is my locker?

Your locker is a summary of all the products that you have purchased in the store. These items are available for use within an active competition to enhance the value of your team members.

How do I purchase products from the Store?

When you visit the Store, you will be able to see all the products that we have available. To purchase a quantity of one or more of a specific product, simply click on its image. Change the quantity, then click purchase item, and it will be added to your Locker automatically.

What products should I buy, what do you recommend?

Purchasing products is a personal decision. Each product has a different cost, and a different value in the game. We recommend purchasing products that give you the best chance of winning a competition, thus the products that have the highest value when applied to an athlete on your team in the game. Then again, you may simply choose to purchase a product based on what it looks like. Ultimately, the choice is yours, but follow this chart to see the value:

How do I use these products?

Once purchased, products are added to your locker. Once in your Locker, you can add one product from each category (Goggles, Suits, etc.) to each athlete on your team during an event. Once an purchased product is assigned to an athlete, it can only be used during the remainder of the active competition before being deactivated.

How do products impact scoring?

Each product has a cost and a value assigned to it. Typically, the higher the cost, the better the value. When picks are made by you, and products assigned to these picks, you can earn bonuses for your picks. The bonuses directly correlate to the value of your products. Products range in value from PP 0.25 to PP 4.00.

How are these bonus points calculated?

Let's assume you picked Athlete X in the 400m Freestyle to win the gold medal. Let's also assume that you've assigned a swim cap worth PP 0.50, goggles worth PP 2.00, and a suit worth PP 4.00. If Athlete X does win the gold medal, you'd earn 5 points for the correct gold medal pick, plus the PP bonus of 6.50 for a total of PP 11.50, versus PP 5.00 for someone who did not add any products to their athlete.

What are Pursuit Bucks?

Sometimes referred to as a PB, Pursuit Bucks are the currency for Podium Pursuit. You can earn or purchase Pursuit Bucks.

How do I buy Pursuit Bucks?

You will see links to purchase Pursuit Bucks throughout the site. By clicking the link you will be able to pay for Bucks using a credit card or by using PayPal (additional payment option will be added soon). All purchases are typically applied to your account for immediate use.

How do I earn Pursuit Bucks?

At the end of each competition, you will have earned a number of Podium Points. Within 24-48 hours, the Podium Points you've earned will be converted automatically to Pursuit Bucks on a 2:1 basis (one PB per two Points earned). These Bucks hold the same value as purchased bucks, and can be used immediately in the Store.

What are Podium Points and how do I earn them?

Sometimes referred to as PP, Podium Points are the points you earn when playing the game and making correct picks.

How does scoring work to earn Podium Points?

You can earn 5 points for picking the gold medalist correctly, 3 points for picking the silver medalist correctly, 2 points for picking the bronze medalist correctly, and 1 point for picking a swimmer to medal, but not choosing the correct medal for that athlete.

Yes, but we will let you figure it out for yourself.

Will my purchases or picks ever impact real-life?

No.

Where can I play?

You can play on any site that hosts Podium Pursuit, including PodiumPursuit.com and fantasy.SwimmingWorldMagazine.com. We are also developing a Facebook application that will allow you to play without leaving the social network. You also can play Podium Pursuit on a partner website - learn more about our partner/affiliate program.

What sports are available?

At this time we have only completed a fantasy swimming game, but we do have lots of sports scheduled. You may certainly request a sport that you want to play.

Will I need a new account to play other sports?

No. Your single Podium Pursuit account will give you access to all the sports we have available, and your Pursuit Bucks are global and can be used for any sports on any website, social network or partner

Can I play on an iPhone, iPad or Android device?

In short, yes you can. The experience, at this time, is not optimized for these devices, and we are developing device specific experiences that should be available for free downloads in the future.

Can I play on Facebook?

Not yet. We are actively developing our Facebook solution, but for now you can sign up (you likely already did) using your Facebook login and share your accolades with, and invite, your Facebook friends to join you to play
